I was very unsure about purchasing any MUA Velvet lip lacquers. Yes, everyone was raving about them but, I didn't want to be hoovered up into mere hype and be left with products, that either didn't suit my skin tone or let's face it were crappy. Yeah I said it.
Anyway ... I eventually caved in and bought Kooky, Reckless, later on Atomic and lastly Criminal (I forgot about that). Today I will be showcasing them all. I've decided that instead of splitting up the reviews - I'd lump them all together and try to be descriptive but brief about the shades and my take on these liquid lipsticks.
Packaging: MUA Velvet Lip Lacquers come in a frosted plastic tube, with a doe foot applicator. It kinda reminds me of Lime Crimes Velvetines from what I've seen on-line (frosted bottle). I think that its simple and sturdy. I have no complaints.
Smell: A chemical smell - I suppose it could be improved but its not necessary since many people love to complain about smells e.g. "oh this is far too too sweet fa-la-la-la-la"... Personally - I like scents - when they're done right - so yeah sometimes I am disappointed when my lip products smell like they've just rolled out of the laboratory, rather than skipped out of a candy lane straight into my arms. Yeah, a girl can dream ...

| Kooky, Reckless, Atomic & Criminal |
Colours
- Kooky a dark true purple
- Reckless a cool based red
- Atomic a neon orange
- Criminal a neon hot pink/fuchsia
Kooky: A beautiful colour that will compliment dark skin easily. I think out of the whole MUA line Kooky is probably the least scary and most wearable for those with dark skin who want to try out the line. I know personally that Kooky was the one shade I wanted - I know very typical for a dark skin girl but what can I say *shrugs*. This is a great colour overall and will work for all skin tones and purple fans. It does dry darker than the lip swatches shown here (see dry swatch above) but its still a wonderful purple shade.

Reckless |
Reckless: MUA liquid lipsticks don't transfer easily but, they will fade and it will crust/flake when rubbed. I have worn Reckless and Kooky out so I know the formula is not bulletproof. Nonetheless Reckless, does the job of being a inexpensive gorgeous red that any 1950s pin up girl wannabe will love to paint her lips with. I actually complimented a Sales Assistant on her lip colour - thinking that it was surely Ruby Woo - to be told that it was in fact MUA which I already had ... This definitely works on all skin tones and proves that you don't need to splash the cash to get a gorgeous product.

| Atomic |
Atomic: At first, I was really not interested in getting this shade but, then I changed my mind. Atomic is a super amped up bright orange. When I have this on and I'm looking at myself I can't help but laugh - it really is an out there crazy colour especially against my dark skin. Yet, before my lips shrivel up from life and its miseries and I have some plumpness and moisture to them, I will paint them in odd colours for the sheer joy of it! Don't judge this shade by Internet swatches this lipstick is neon! So depending on your preferences you may or may not want to go for this, like for instance if you don't like to be laughed at because of the lip shade you're wearing ... skip atomic. My sisters first reaction to this lip colour was 2-3 minutes of pure unadulterated constant laughter ... after she caught her breath her first comment was: "its ... ridiculous". Nonetheless, who cares what she thinks *blows raspberry*. Yet, I'm not sure I'm ready to wear this out - hang on : when is bobo da fools carnival happening? (lol). Seriously though, I'm not really afraid of looking silly more about where and when will I be looking silly ... in the meantime I might fine unique ways to make its less like "whap-wollop-kazing" for onlookers who will just see da lips ... I mean apart from thinking I'm a bit cray-cray, they might think I have something important to say and of course we wouldn't want that ...
Criminal: Do you sometimes feel like a criminal? ... Well ... with a colour so shockingly bright like this it might just be illegal. Criminal is a neon pink - no doubt about that. Criminal is very, very bright - kinda neon in its appearance. It dries somewhat powdery and more fuschia thank my lip swatch pic. Its lively and reminds me of something like Candy Yum Yum its fun and bubbly for times when I may not feel up to being those qualities, I might swipe this on and get up and over life's miseries. Similar to Atomic, Criminal is not for the faint hearted ...
So do the swatches speak for themselves?
Well let me add to them anyway ...
The Low Down: Now I'm going to speak about something that seems to be downplayed in the matte lipstick and matte lip lacquer game. Matte lip products are drying and some lip lacquers are more drying than others. Honestly, I have some lip lacquers that literally seem to suck the life out of my lips in a few minutes that I begin to start wondering where my lips have gone to? Do I need to call the po-po? Do I need to go down to the station? Does an inquest need to be started about the theft of my lips ... Where da gone?! I don't know bout you, but this girl does not want the lips of an Egyptian mummy ... Thankfully, not all lip lacquers do this. So what about MUA liquid lipsticks? Well - Yes they are matte and dry - no real moisture here - but it is comfortable and can be easily removed with even a makeup wipe. This means that it's not the most long lasting but I don't mind wiping it off before eating and then applying it again or using a lip balm instead for a laid back evening.
How I combat the dry factor of liquid lipsticks? I make sure to apply a good coating of lip balm - allow it to soak in and then wipe a little bit off if its too slippery and then apply the liquid to matte product. This allows me to get a matte look but a more comfortable lip. Plus when wearing the matte lipstick if I feel my lips are really dry I will put some lip balm on through the day to ease any dryness. Also sometimes I'll wipe it off and do the routine again (lip balm etc) as it gives me a fresh lip and tops up my lips moisture levels.
Pros: Pigmented, inexpensive and has a good lasting time.
Cons: Not a great selection of colours for those who don't like brights - it would be nice to have more shades :). Tends to flake after a while and if worn alone can be quite drying on the lips. Plus it takes a while to dry.
